Majors Yankees Edge
Rangers In
Unprecedented Game
Never in it's history has a Rancho Niguel Little League Major Division team won first place in the District 55 Tournament of Champions.... until Friday, June 15!
That night, at Ryan Harris Memorial Field (La Paz), the Majors Rangers and Yankees squared off for the District Championship. The Yankees won regular season honors with a 10-5 record, while the Rangers were undefeated in the playoff tournament and won those honors. This promised to be a great game between two fantastic teams!
Laguna Niguel Mayor Gary Capata will tossed out the first pitch, and the game got underway.
The match remained scoreless through three innings. Then, in the bottom of the fourth, the Yankees pushed three runs across. In the top of the fifth, the Rangers answered back with two, score 3-2 Yankees.
But in the bottom of the fifth, the Yankees sealed the deal with three more runs, and held on for a 6-2 victory.
What a night for both teams, for the families, and for the city of Laguna Niguel!
